In our ever-evolving digital world, the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools into our daily work lives is no longer a distant future but an inevitable present. The advent of AI presents us with unprecedented opportunities to enhance our productivity, streamline processes, and generate innovative solutions. However, with these possibilities also comes the responsibility to learn and adapt to ensure that these powerful tools are used effectively and ethically. At Wunder, we embrace this challenge with open arms.

Wunder has always been a company that chooses to learn, experiment, and grow. That’s why the exploration and understanding of these fast-emerging AI tools feel so natural to us. Our interest in AI has been there for quite a while, and in August 2022, we internally recognized and said out loud that this is something that we want to invest our time into and also created an internal initiative and an internal, open community around this topic.

We are thrilled about the groundbreaking potential of AI but also are wise enough to realize anything this powerful also has great risks. We believe that the responsible use of advanced technologies is pivotal to our commitment to operate ethically, sustainably, and with the highest degree of transparency. We are aware that AI, while transformative, raises critical questions related to confidentiality, privacy, fact-checking, transparency, and sustainability. As we continue incorporating AI tools like Copilot for developers and Chat-GPT for marketing and talent initiatives, we're equally committed to addressing these challenges head-on. In this article, we delve into our approach to leveraging AI while remaining steadfast in our commitment to confidentiality, privacy, transparency, and sustainability.

Usage of AI Tools at Wunder

To ensure the tools are utilized responsibly, wisely, and securely, we've established a set of guidelines. These are not only to guide our actions but also to open up a dialogue about our use of AI – thus manifesting our commitment to transparent operations.

Confidentiality

Protecting our proprietary information is one of our utmost priorities. We encourage our teams to refrain from sharing any confidential information about our company, clients, or partners through these AI tools. It's crucial to exercise caution and make certain that no sensitive data is inadvertently shared.

Privacy

As part of our commitment to uphold the privacy and confidentiality of our customers, we discourage the use of any personally identifiable information (PII) in your AI prompts. Instead, we recommend using placeholders, such as "[customer name]", as a precautionary measure to shield customer data.

Fact-checking

While AI tools can generate impressively detailed information, they can sometimes produce inaccurate results. We emphasize the importance of cross-checking the AI-generated content with reliable sources to maintain the integrity and accuracy of our work.

Transparency

Trust is a core pillar of our business, and transparency is key to maintaining that trust. Hence, whenever an AI tool is used in creating or assisting with content, we encourage our teams to make this clear. For example, in Slack communications, one can use the  emoji to indicate AI involvement in content generation.

Sustainability

AI tools, while immensely powerful, can significantly contribute to energy consumption and carbon emissions due to their high computational needs. Thus, we encourage the following sustainable practices:

  • Avoid unnecessary usage: We advocate using AI tools only when genuinely necessary for the task at hand. Thus avoiding excessive or unnecessary experimentation, which can lead to unjustifiable resource consumption.
  • Optimize usage: Making efficient use of AI tools can significantly reduce their environmental footprint. This involves minimizing the number of iterations and being mindful of the computing power and time required. Our goal is to strive for the most efficient use of resources.
  • Collaborative sharing: We firmly believe in the power of collaboration and knowledge sharing. Sharing AI-generated insights, prompts, and code snippets within teams can reduce the redundant use of AI tools, boosting overall efficiency and sustainability.

In conclusion, we view AI as a potent tool that, when used responsibly and ethically, can have a profound impact on our productivity and effectiveness. Our AI usage policy is not merely a set of rules; it's an embodiment of our commitment to confidentiality, privacy, fact-checking, transparency, and sustainability. We encourage our people to embrace the power of AI while adhering to these guidelines to ensure that we collectively uphold the values that Wunder stands for.

ChatGPT was our digital co-editor for this article. But the decisions on the guidelines are created by us, the humans of Wunder.
