Nielsen Norman Group, a leading operator in the user experience field, held their highly recognised annual Intranet Design competition for the 16th time. Latvian Railway - with a small development team from Wunder - was acknowledged alongside huge corporations with big design teams.
"The main goal of intranet redesign was to provide employees with an easy to use system for their everyday work. It was important to improve the functionality of the intranet to reach the business goals - to raise the number of users, to optimize the resources by developing employee self-service options, to raise employees’ awareness on current events and to receive their feedback,” says Jurgis Gaigals, the Project Manager in Latvian Railway.
It began when Latvian Railway wanted Open Source, so Drupal was a logical solution for their needs. We have also worked with Latvian Railway previously and the successful partnership was extended to cover the new intranet project as well.
The intranet was a success! During the project we did vast migration from Microsoft Sharepoint platform to Open Source Drupal platform fulfilling Latvian Railway’s strategic goal to move into Open Source. Also employee polls and surveys show that the satisfaction rate with the new intranet is constantly growing and the amount of unsatisfied people is getting smaller and smaller.
"The Latvian Railway intranet provides equivalent information, regardless of device, for all site users. The responsive site integrates a variety of systems, making the intranet a single point of entry to everything employees need to do in the course of a day," said usability expert Jakob Nielsen, principal of Nielsen Norman Group.
We’re proud of this award and it shows that Wunder has done exceptional job in creating a design which is beautiful, simple, clean and - most importantly - user-friendly.
